So long, Wine Country. The High Times Cannabis Cup is moving back to the City. Ok, Daly City. But still.

High Times magazine announced this week that their annual Northern California Cannabis Cup has moved to the Cow Palace in Daly City and will occur Saturday and Sunday, June 20-21. The event combines a large industry expo, expert panels, inscrutably tasty food & drink, entertainment, and an awards ceremony for California’s best sativa, indica, hybrid, high-CBD flowers, as well as awards for extracts, edibles, glass, products and booths.

The Cup is 18 and over, with a medical recommendation for required for partaking on-site. Tickets are $50 for the Saturday Cup and Saturday night concert, $40 for Sunday day and Sunday night awards and $100 for weekend VIP passes.

In related news, California’s original outdoor organic medical cannabis competition, The Emerald Cup, will return to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds this December. The Emerald Cup will go down December 12 and 13, also pairing an expo and panels with entertainment and an awards ceremony. More than 600 growers entered the 2014 Emerald Cup — the biggest in the once-clandestine event’s history.

Both events hoped to locate at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds this year, but Fairground officials declined to host the Cannabis Cup this year, citing trash and logistics hassles, reports state. Emerald Cup organizers, however, were welcomed back with some new restrictions: the event will be 18 and older only; more security will prevent smoking outside designated areas; and vendors must not hand out samples of marijuana-infused edibles.
